Kikay Reviews: Fitbit Charge 2

Ever since I received the Fitbit Charge HR early this year, life hasn’t been the same. I’ve been able to:

  • determine how much I actually move around and sit still throughout an entire day (on rest days I’m a sloth!)
  • accumulate enough daily steps to have walked the entire length of Italy (that’s 1,184 kilometers since I started using a Fitbit)
  • see that I’m not recovering fast enough from a lengthy illness (which led me to decrease end-of-season racing plans)

My Fitbit has enabled me to “quantify my life” and you know what the numbers nerds say: what can be measured can be controlled.

Kikay Reviews: Under Armour Charged Bandit 2

With the start of the UA Run Crew last week, Under Armour is poised for a bigger presence in the Philippine running community. The brand seeks a bigger share of the running shoe market with their latest offering, the Charged Bandit 2.

Under Armour Charged Bandit 2

I’ve mainly been running in the Speedform Apollo for races and short distance sessions, and the “Speedform Gemini for marathon training. This was my first experience with the Bandit line, which is on Under Armour’s second tier of neutral running shoes, at a slightly lower price point. Kikay Reviews: A Week with the Moto 360

I love gadgets that help track fitness and training, so when I got a chance to try the new Moto 360 smartwatch for a few weeks, I pounced at it. I mean, just look:

Moto 360
the new Moto 360

The Moto 360 comes in Black Leather, Rose Gold, and Sport styles. The Moto 360 Sport is available in Black, White, and Flame colors, so I chose white.

The Moto 360 is powered by Android Wear™, is Wi-Fi enabled and runs with a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 400 with 1.2 GHz quad-core processor. It also features Moto Body, is water resistant with IP67* rating and features scratch-resistant Corning® Gorilla® Glass. It is compatible with both Android and iOS platforms, but because I’m already an Android phone user getting the Moto 360 to work with my phone was a breeze. Kikay Reviews: Nike LunarEpic Flyknit

Like I mentioned in my weekly wrap-up post on Monday, I’m going to tell you about the Nike Epic Run held last Saturday at Nuvali where we tested the Nike LunarEpic Flyknit running shoes.

I mentioned the midcut LunarEpics a few months ago that were launched alongside the twice-weekly Nike Run Club sessions. Now Nike has introduced low-cut versions for women with the same sole and insole technology to make you feel like you can run forever. Continue reading “Kikay Reviews: Nike LunarEpic Flyknit”

Shop Visit: Rapha’s Gear

I wanted to pick up a pair of the JBL Under Armour wireless headphones (my old Yurbuds Leap wireless gave up the ghost after getting absolutely drenched in last Friday’s rainstorm), so I dropped by Rapha’s Gear on the ground floor of the new Glorietta wing in Ayala Center Makati.

Kikay Reviews: Under Armour Pure Stretch Underwear

Apparently it was “No Panty Day” on Wednesday this week. The commemoration of this fake holiday drew a snicker from me, but called to mind the function of underwear when training.

It’s hard to find underwear that won’t chafe or bunch up when you sweat in them — I can actually count on one hand the pairs of panties I liked using when using tights. But wearing tights without underwear made me feel exposed, especially if the tights went sheer in the bum area.

I’ve been wearing running shorts with built-in liners, but due to marathon training I had to start wearing compression tights again.

That’s when I discovered the Under Armour Pure Stretch seamless underwear.

Under Armour Seamless Underwear

This is underwear made for athletes, with sweat-wicking material that keeps your intimate areas dry and flat seams that stretch and move with you.

I got my hands on a pair after an Under Armour event, and once I’d tried them I quickly snapped up a few more pairs so I could have one for every day of the week!

There are many cute training and workout shorts on the market I’ve avoided buying because they didn’t have inner lining, but now I have more choices because I can wear the UA Pure Stretch underwear under them. Hurray for the end of unintentional full moons!

Under Armour Seamless Underwear

The one-size-fits-athletes sizing scheme made me hesitant at first, but the cheeky bikini style hugged my 36-inch hips, gave enough coverage for my bottom, and didn’t result in the dreaded Visible Panty Line. In fact they are so comfortable I’ve taken to wearing them even when I’m not breaking a sweat. And because they dry so fast, I’ve taken them on my travels so when I do laundry my delicates don’t need to hang around too long on a clothesline.

(The underwear also comes in a thong variant, and in more than half a dozen colors and patterns. Under Armour also makes the Boxerjock for men.)

They’re not an inexpensive indulgence, though, at around P450 a pair. I lucked out because I snapped most of mine up during an outlet sale and on

Try a pair and see for yourself why “you’ll never wear regular underwear again!”

P.S. NEVER wear underpants under cycling and tri shorts.

Kikay Reviews: Funkita Swimwear

So many great swimwear brands are starting to enter the Philippines, expanding our options. Just last week, I found out that Funkita Swimwear and Funky Trunks now have a presence in the country.

Funkita Swimwear

I first heard about Funkita (and its men’s suits counterpart Funky Trunks) from my Aussie friends back in 2013. The Way Funky Company is an Australian company that produces swimwear for men, women, and children and activewear for women. Funky Trunks and Funkita swimwear are well-known for flair, vibrancy, and originality.

In other words, you won’t find any subdued colors and patterns here. Continue reading “Kikay Reviews: Funkita Swimwear”
