Solo in Seoul, Pt. 1: DMZ Tour, Cheonggyecheon, Myeongdong Street Food

Seeing new places is one of my passions in life I try to indulge at least once a year, and my Korea trip allowed me to visit not just one but three places in that country. After Gurye and Busan, it was time to hit up Seoul for a few days and then fly home.

I nearly missed my train from Busan to Seoul, but recovered quickly from that to pack my first two days with an itinerary that took me to the Demilitarized Zone and back to wander where my feet would take me.

Watch my vlog below:

I don’t have any cutesy photos from the DMZ Tour, just because it kind of seemed inappropriate to prance around pulling faces where two countries are still technically at war. It’s probably why when I returned to Seoul I set off on a run to shake things off.

Running from Insadong where my hotel was located, I had a rough idea where I wanted to go: Cheonggyecheon (Cheonggye Stream), a creek and recreation space in downtown Seoul. Used as an open sewer during the Joseon Dynasty, it was later covered by an elevated highway as Seoul modernized. However, in 2003-2005 Seoul undertook its restoration and rehabilitation to create a green space in the heart of the city. It was on this route I was able to do my first 10-kilometer run in three years. πŸ™‚

Of course, all this running built an appetite, so I decided to fill my belly with street food at Myeongdong. Was it a good decision? Well, watch the vlog and find out.
