I shop for clothes a lot online these days due to the terrible traffic in Metro Manila. It’s easy when you know your size, and even easier when you have a credit card. Then I just have to wait for my packages to arrive!
But I understand that so many others don’t have the benefit of a credit card. I think of the races that people buy prepaid cards in store for so they could register online. That’s why when online store platforms like Lazada started offering cash-on-delivery options, it opened the door for a lot more to experience the convenience of online shopping. However, stores had to take the risk of shipping packages but users not paying for them.
At the same time, more and more people are paying for purchases with GCash, a virtual wallet linked to their cellphone numbers. Many fastfood restaurants and department stores accept it as a mode of payment. Filipinos using a Globe, Smart, Sun, TM, or Talk & Text SIM can register for an account for free. Customers can download the app for free on the App Store and on Google Play.
So now GCash has partnered with Lazada to offer this mode of payment for Lazada users. “Being able to shop online using the GCash App solves two problems, mainly providing access and convenience to consumers to shop online without a credit card, and enabling merchants to expand their consumer base and minimize risk on COD transactions,” said Anthony Thomas, Mynt’s President and CEO. (Mynt is the operating company behind GCash.)
GCash and Lazada periodically give promotions when you pay using GCash. Coming up are online shopping days 11.11 and 12.12 where you can get as much as 50% discount up to PHP 300. At the same time, you can enjoy 20% discounts up to PHP200 on flash sales.
