Run Happy Crew Every Wednesday

Run Happy Crew

Plenty of run groups have made Bonifacio Global City their base of operations. At least three different brands hold clinics on almost all days of the week out of the Bonifacio High Street area, alongside independent groups that have been a fixture here for years.

Away from the madding crowd, the Run Happy Crew have carved a niche out at Kerry Sports Manila in Shangri-La Fort, holding sessions every Wednesday from March 29 to May 3. Led by sports medicine physio extraordinaire Francis Diano of PACE Prehab & Recovery with the support of 2XU and Brooks, these sessions are structured with one main focus each week to help you become a better runner.

I attended the launch night and really enjoyed the more intimate setting as well as the run route chosen for this group: fewer streets to cross and no bumping into other run groups.

The dynamic warm-up took place in the Shangri-La park, where Francis emphasized lightness on feet with plenty of bouncing in place, breathing properly, as well as did range-of-motion and muscle activation work that made sure we were using the correct muscles to power our run.

After the warm-up we jogged through the Mind Museum pathway into Burgos Circle towards the Bonifacio Greenway, that one kilometer-long park which has quite a bit of elevation going one way, but the positive is that it’s relatively quiet but well-lit. It was perfect for a run because there was no need to stop at lights or watch out for cars — only for runners going slower or faster than you.

In a setting like this, it’s easier to get to know your fellow runners and be social. We all waited for everyone to finish (it was a short easy run but people still run easy at different paces), then jogged back to Shangri-La park where we welcomed each other with a finish tunnel. Francis led us through some stretches, and then it was “see you next week!” But not before some group photos.

I cannot emphasize how important it is to stretch afterwards.
