The “New Normal”

After five weeks of community quarantine in Metro Manila (and more countries around the world starting their own quarantine periods), a “new normal” is starting to present itself in the endurance/triathlon/running community.

All mass participation and professional sporting events have either been postponed or cancelled for the near future. Sport has definitely taken a back seat as the world concentrates on COVID-19 containment and recovery. But even when quarantine periods lift, endurance athletes who love to sign up for races will see a vastly different event calendar until a vaccine or immunity is developed.

In this vlog I bring you up to speed with what’s been going on in general and specifically in my neighborhood, and what I’ve seen happen or will happen in the endurance space. Some of it works, some of it doesn’t… but it all comes down to this: What happens when you no longer have a finish line, a medal, or bragging rights to look forward to? What will keep you motivated? Why would you keep swimming (well, you can’t unless you have your own pool), cycling, and running?
