Lacoste Celebrates 85th Anniversary

Not many of you know that I used to run a blog dedicated to professional tennis in the early 2000’s. I was trying to learn to play tennis but quickly found that I was more attracted to the easy comfort of tennis wear than the steep learning curve required to actually play. In particular, I loved the classic apparel designs offered by Lacoste, worn by their professional endorsers.

Last week, Novak Djokovic won the US Open wearing “the Croc”, which was only fitting as the French brand celebrated its 85th anniversary. Here in the Philippines, they held a pop-up exhibit at the Bonifacio High Street Central Square mall. If you missed it, my short video gives you the highlights of what they had on display, which included artistic interpretations of the famous Lacoste polo, interactive workshops, audio-video testimonial booths, and a photobooth experience.

They also launched a capsule collection of revival designs from each decade Lacoste has existed. These “re-editions” are as fresh now as they were in every decade they were released. A Lacoste tennis dress is my type of athleisure wear, because even if I can’t play to save my life I can at least look cute but not look like I’m headed to the gym.Β My personal style has lately veered toward classic sporty silhouettes like these below.
