Last week was really all about making a weekend beach trip happen. I’ve been traveling all over lately, and while I love having seen so many places, I have missed having some down time where I don’t have to be anywhere or do anything.
When my friend Hilary Isaac of ToughGirl invited me to join her on a trip to Boracay, I gladly pounced on the opportunity. We flew using SkyJet vouchers she’d received as part of a hosting job, and I locked down a hotel located on Station One, the quiet part of White Beach. It was three days of sun, sand, and no agendas whatsoever.Β
What I didn’t realize was how active we’d still be once we landed on the island. Walking was our preferred means of transport — we managed to walk 12 kilometers on our first day!
I also invited Hilary to try stand-up paddleboarding, which I’d learned to do last year. It’s a great way to be out on the water, get a great tan, and work out your arms, legs, and core. With both of us being fitness-minded people, I was glad to have a companion on the trip that appreciated moving as well as being still.
After watching a lovely sunset from a beachside bar, we grabbed a wrap and the island’s special chori burger en route to getting back to the hotel and melting into our beds.

I couldn’t resist getting up the next morning to run along the beach, even though it was drizzling. Besides, if I were going to lie in the sun all day I should at least get a workout in. I managed an easy five kilometers before breakfast. π
Hilary, as a physique bodybuilder, had her own workout on the beach featuring a random T-rex that popped into frame. If you’re interested in building strength and shaping your body, you should go check out her blog at ToughGirl.online.
It was wonderful to catch up with a dear friend and get a little break in before I start on my Ho Chi Mi half-marathon preparations. Nothing like walking around alongside a bikini athlete to kick your butt into gear and get you working a little more intensely toward your own fitness goals. π
