A little around two weeks ago, Under Armour Southeast Asia began running ads on Facebook saying their Sportsmask was back in stock. I was the perfect target: I’m a sports-minded individual with disposable income who had already heard (and posted about) the Sportsmask back when it was first announced in March. So, cha-ching! I rang up the purchase on the underarmour.com.ph website, which conveniently had free shipping for no minimum spend.
The Under Armour Sportsmask arrived over the weekend. I promptly got to unboxing it and taking it for a test run for my vlog, which you can view below:
I’m very used to running while wearing a mask at this point, so any extra sweating around my mouth area is part of the territory. I didn’t find it any hotter than I usually do wearing my other masks, but found that the Sportsmask’s structure and material are able to keep fabric away from the nose and mouth without any additional scaffolding that I have to use with my other masks.
The mask is available in several different sizes (although right now it’s gone out of stock on the website), so you need to measure from one ear across your nose bridge to the other ear to determine your size. Unfortunately my measurement qualified me for both the S-M and M-L sizes, so I picked the larger size. That was a mistake, because I don’t have a nose sharp enough for the mask not to start sliding down during my sweaty workouts.
Size issues notwithstanding I think this is the way more sports masks should go with their own structure so that you don’t end up with a noseful and mouthful of wet cloth every time you inhale while working out. Priced at Php 1,395, many fellow runners and sports enthusiasts might find it too heavy on the pocketbook especially during this pandemic. My advice? If you can fit it properly it’s an OK buy, but it’s not a significant improvement if you’re already running comfortably with other, more affordable masks. Maybe wait for version 2.0.
