It looks like Quezon City has joined Cebu as the country’s only two cities that have consistently held a marathon (the 42K, mind you) every year. The Quezon City International Marathon this year will be held on December 2 and will offer 5K, 10K, 21K, and 42K race categories.
The real lure of the QCIM is its route. While other marathons will take you through the urban jungle, the QCIM has used the forested paths of La Mesa Ecopark Reserve, an exclusive treat for its marathon participants.
It’s also one of the more affordable marathons in Metro Manila. Registration fee is P800 for the 42K, P600 for the 21K, P500 for the 10K, and P400 for the 5K. However, there’s a different registration fee for foreign entrants: $48 for the 21K and $72 for the 42K.
Its targeted 12,000 runners puts it on par with the Milo Marathon Manila leg in terms of sheer number of participants. However, with Quezon City’s wide boulevards, particularly Commonwealth Avenue where most of the race will be held, I’ll still have a lot of room to stretch my legs (I’m doing 10K).
You can register at SMDC offices (SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, SM Mall of Asia), Chris Sports branches (SM North EDSA Annex, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM Manila, SM Fairview, and Fitness & Athletics in BGC), All Terra Bike Shop branches (Club 650 Libis, MC Home Depot Ortigas), and the Runnex office at UP Diliman Bahay ng Alumni. Registration ends November 26.
The race kit includes a singlet and race bib with B-Tag timing chip.
