Nike React Infinity 2 Running Shoe [REVIEW]

I uploaded my review of the Nike React Infinity 2 after just two weeks of running in it because the update from Nike React Infinity 1 is so simple, but not negligible.

Nike began offering the React Infinity line on the premise that it could help runners keep running and decrease their risk of injury. They accomplished this with the construction of the shoe midsole using React foam, wide midsole, and rocker footbed that cushioned from impact and guided the foot and leg through the run motion. They were so confident in its ability that they decided to release the first version with a very minimalist one-piece Flyknit upper.

The Main Difference

Based on the feedback from their first release, Nike launched the React Infinity 2 with what is basically the same midsole, outsole, and insert — but with a more structured Flyknit upper strengthened with Flywire and using a more traditional tongue, lacing, and padded collar.

Here’s what I thought about this update to the React Infinity. I also answer a few questions submitted by my followers on social media.

Q&A About the Nike React Infinity 2

Which is better: Epic React or Infinity React?

I’m unable to answer this because I’ve never run in the Epic React… but I’ve heard that Nike might be replacing the Epic line with the Infinity line, so if you’re a big fan of the Epic it’s probably time to hoard.

Is the original version still worth buying?

The Infinity 1 is currently not on sale (yet), so it really depends which upper you like better.

Which one has better support and cushioning?

I thought the Infinity 2 felt like it supported and cushioned better, but that’s because the upper provided more structure and was more plush.

How does it feel on the heels?

React foam is very cushy and comfortable, so I felt like even at slower paces where I was landing more towards the rear of my foot, my heels were cushioned. At the same time, there was a nice spring to my step when pushing off.

How’s the outsole durability?

I’ve only been running in it for two weeks! But here Nike uses the same blown rubber outsole it does in its other long-mileage shoes. I’m willing to bet the upper will wear out before the outsole does.

Is the shoe suited for short or long runs, or both?

I think pace and intensity of the run are what we should be talking about rather than distance. The React Infinity line is meant for your bread-and-butter daily mileage that’s not too fast. It has the amount of comfort you’d need when going for longer steady distances.

Would you recommend the Nike React Infinity 2 for racing?

Having raced in the Infinity 1, you could probably get away with it but it’s not my go-to race shoe. I prefer feeling light and fast on race day.

Would you recommend it to newbies and casual runners?

If you’re a casual runner who does a few kilometers as a warmup before other forms of workout, this probably isn’t the shoe for you. At the current price point, I would recommend the Nike React Infinity 2 for newbies who are serious about making running part of their lifestyle — for instance, someone who’s doing a couch to 5K challenge and could see themselves going for even more after that.

The Nike React Infinity 2 is now available at Nike Park stores for P8,295. Check out the available colorways on Nike.com.
