Why I Love Running

It’s the love month, and with Valentine’s Day just past I’m still feeling a little tingly and giddy. You don’t stick with something unless you love it; that’s how I know I love running. Let me run down the reasons why.

Taytay Long Run: Love Sign

LOVE!

I love running because I’m good at it (well, relatively speaking). Unlike some activities which are judged subjectively on aesthetics and preference, running has an objective measure: you’re good at it if you can outrun the rest of the pack. I also have a competitive streak, and beating my PR’s satisfies my need to win.

I love running because it has helped me keep the weight off. Eating is a way I bond with my family and friends, and adding just a bit more running to my weekly routine has kept the inches from piling on.

I love running because it literally takes me places. I go on foot more these days because running has made me so hardy on my feet, and I see little treasures and details and slices of life in my surroundings that I would have missed if I were in a car.

I love running because it’s always an adventure. Everything is new even if it’s the same old road I run week after week. My body and mental state are different, and running not only takes me on an external journey, but an internal one as well.

I love running because I’ve met so many people through it who’ve become good friends. My Endure teammates are runners I met through Takbo.ph, and I’m able to keep up conversations with random people I encounter simply because they’re runners too!

Lastly but most importantly, I love running because it makes me feel truly human. Sometimes I feel like I’m just a disembodied brain as I write at my computer, or a little robot with a “play button” when I teach gym classes inside a studio. But when I’m out on the road listening to the sounds of my breath in the air and footfalls on the ground, feeling the wind on my skin as I go faster, seeing the world speed by me, I know I’m doing what God designed me to do, what I was built for. This is what keeps me running and will keep me running for years to come.

So, why do you love running?

  1. This is a nice post. Those are all good reasons to love running. One thing I can add (and this is only one reason of many) is the feeling of accomplishment I get after a run or a race. With so many projects at work and home that may remain unfinished, it is a good feeling to be able to say what I did today – ran in a 10K race, or went out for a nice long run, whatever it may be.

  2. Why I love running…

Running has changed me in ways I cannot explain: my attitude towards heartaches, sorrows, problems, depression. I would not be able to easily move on with my recent break up without running. Running persistently allowed endorphins to be released in my bloodstream making me forget the heartaches and pains that I was experiencing a few months back. I never imagined myself being addicted to running until last year.

Running has made me become more positive towards life. I know that nothing is impossible and I can do anything I want and desire. I look forward to what each new day will bring to me. I am ready to face all problems that are yet to come without fear.

  3. Thanks Kassy!
