Takbo Contra AbuZo on November 19

It was the International Day of the Girl yesterday, and this reminded me of the importance of raising young women in a nurturing, supportive environment so they can reach their full potential. One of the avenues to do so is to ensure girls grow up safe, free from violence. We have come a long way in the fight for women’s equality, but there is yet more work to be done.

Zonta Club of Pampanga, an NGO which advocates Anti-Violence Against Women and Children will hold the first Takbo Kontra AbuZo on November 19 at CDC Clark Parade Grounds, Pampanga. This fun run aims to raise funds for the advocacy, raise awareness to end violence against women, and of course promote health and wellness. Continue reading “Takbo Contra AbuZo on November 19”

Hope 2017: Run for Children with Special Needs

Races that benefit the welfare of children are close to my heart. So when one of my blog readers messaged me about the Hope 2017: Run for Children with Special Needs, I knew for certain I wanted to post about it here in the hopes that some of you would like to run for a great cause.

The Hope Run this year will be held in two cities: Manila on December 2 (SM Mall of Asia), and Cebu on December 10 (Ayala Business Park) with distances of 1.5K, 5K, 10K, and 21K. You can run in the standard race kit, or wear your best hero costume and cosplay through the run. The “standard race kit” actually includes a singlet, cape, and hero’s mask already! All finishers will also receive a finisher’s medal upon completion. (Race timing is only available for 10K and 21K as this is a non-competitive event.)Β  Continue reading “Hope 2017: Run for Children with Special Needs”

Run for the Mountains on May 21

Run for the Mountains

In Bonifacio Global City, the area of McKinley Hill and McKinley West is one of the more secluded yet challenging places to run, thanks to its rolling terrain. On May 21, 2017, McKinley West will be the site for Run for the Mountains, a benefit run for our indigenous peoples and the children of Smokey Mountain.

Organized by JCI Manila, the Run for the Mountains will feature 3K, 5K, and 10K distances as well as a barbecue cookout with inflatable parks. There’s something for every member of the family.

During the race you’ll be running with Smokey Mountain football player scholars. Post-race, Mangyan, Igorot, and Aeta athletes will showcase their skills in a “Ninja Warrior” type atmosphere.

Proceeds from the race will go to the improvement of the Smokey Mountain Community Field of Dreams. JCI Manila will also be building water pipes for the IP groups.

(Last year, JCI Manila’s beneficiary for their charity run event was the L.I.F.E. Foundation to pay for the treatment of children with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.)

10K is priced at P750, 5K at P600, and 3K at P500 inclusive of singlet, race bib, loot bag, and entry to post-race raffle. Each loot bag will contain a Mega Fiber cookie bar, Pocari sports drink, Jamba Juice free upsize voucher, Gu gels, and Pringles. Because most proceeds will be donated, medals will only be awarded to the Top 3 finishers. Raffle prizes include Curves 1-day pass, Brooks shoes, and many more.

Register online through this link: Run for the Mountains online registration. You may pay through BDO, BPI, Security Bank, MetroBank, DragonPay, or credit card (via Paypal). Race kits will be shipped to your listed address.

This is a pretty great cause to run for.

Run for Life: A Love Run on February 14

I think I’ve decided on my first race of the year — the Run for Life: A Love Run on February 14, 2016 to be held in Bonifacio Global City.

Run for Life: A Love Run on February 14, 2016

I love the little races for a cause. The atmosphere isn’t overwhelming and bombastic like most major races, and you know you’re contributing to something good.

The Run for Life is organized by ENGLICOM, one of De La Salle University’s oldest organizations and one of the biggest student organizations in DLSU.

Run for Life aims to promote fitness while celebrating the gift of life. The event is inspired by love giving life. The proceeds of the run will be used to finance the Little Stars Day Care Center.

(You know me, I love education and kids!)

Choose from 3K, 5K, or 10K distances priced at P550, P650, and P750 respectively. Register online here at PEP Squad Events — race kits will be delivered door-to-door. DLSU students also have a pre-registration link here; payment and kit claiming will be done on-campus until end of January.

I think by then I’ll be fit enough to run a speedy 10K (depending on route, of course!). So, I hope to see you on February 14 at the Run for Life ;)
