Active Staycation at The Cirque Serviced Residences

Because I work out of my house, every so often I like taking vacation breaks away from home especially during holidays and long weekends. These don’t actually have to be too far from home; the concept of a “staycation” has grown in popularity especially because Metro Manila decongests on holidays as everyone else goes out of town. A staycation also means we still have access to the conveniences of city living.

The Cirque Serviced Residences recently opened, and I pounced on the opportunity to unwind there. Continue reading “Active Staycation at The Cirque Serviced Residences”

Kikay Reviews: Lemongrass House

As much as I love training and being outdoors, I also balance this out by relaxing and resting at home in a sanctuary I make for myself. I discovered Lemongrass House last year during one of my many trips to Phuket and have not gone a day without using one of its products since!

Lemongrass House recently opened its second branch here in the Philippines, which means I no longer have to fly to Phuket to get the essential oils, sprays, and creams I use to pamper and take care of myself. All of its spa products are handcrafted in small batches with natural plant-based ingredients, ensuring freshness and sustainability for the environment — at pocket-friendly prices. <3 Continue reading “Kikay Reviews: Lemongrass House”

Holiday Fitness, Week 3: Singapore Interlude

Last week I took my parents over to Singapore for a little travel break. The last time they were in Singapore, it was 2013 and I couldn’t make it because the Laguna Phuket Triathlon was on that same weekend. So I decided to make some memories with them and revisit one of my favorite running grounds over there as well.

The thing is, traveling in Singapore requires a lot of walking and I usually rack up a gazillion steps on my Fitbit every time I visit. I was worried my parents would be wiped out by our commute. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to drag them all over the place on foot. Continue reading “Holiday Fitness, Week 3: Singapore Interlude”

Kikay Reviews: A Week with the Moto 360

I love gadgets that help track fitness and training, so when I got a chance to try the new Moto 360 smartwatch for a few weeks, I pounced at it. I mean, just look:

Moto 360
the new Moto 360

The Moto 360 comes in Black Leather, Rose Gold, and Sport styles. The Moto 360 Sport is available in Black, White, and Flame colors, so I chose white.

The Moto 360 is powered by Android Wear™, is Wi-Fi enabled and runs with a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 400 with 1.2 GHz quad-core processor. It also features Moto Body, is water resistant with IP67* rating and features scratch-resistant Corning® Gorilla® Glass. It is compatible with both Android and iOS platforms, but because I’m already an Android phone user getting the Moto 360 to work with my phone was a breeze. Affordable Active Wear

Because I’m no longer under contract to a shoe or apparel company, I’ve been busy mixing and matching my old pieces with new finds I’ve picked up the past few months. I still am Kikay Runner, after all. Considerations of comfort aside, if I know I am put together well I can stop worrying about what I look like and focus on my session whether I’m training or racing.

If you think you can find good gear only with the famous brands, I’m here to tell you to expand your horizons! There are many great places to find deals — you just have to know where and how to look.

Triumph Launches Sports Bra Line

When I was in high school I used to wear my regular bras even during Physical Education. This was a job usually reserved for the rattiest, oldest of them because I couldn’t bear having my nice new ones get all sweaty. But this also meant I didn’t get great support as the bras would ride up whenever I raised my arms and would chafe when I bounced up and down.

I’m so happy that there are now sports bras for most women in most sizes. Now that lingerie companies like Triumph are getting in on the action once the sole domain of sportswear companies, we get more options for the kind of fit and support we want. Triumph has been making lingerie since 1886 and the company prides itself on how every stitch and curve of its undergarments fits a woman’s form.

Last Monday I attended Triumph’s launch of their sports bra line with brand ambassador Amy Ahomiro, UAAP volleyball MVP. Not only were we there to peep at the new line, but also to experience it personally by attending a BODYCOMBAT class at Fitness First Platinum Aura with fellow bloggers and fitness fanatics.

I haven’t done BODYCOMBAT in a very long time but I know that it entails a lot of punching, kicking, jumping, bouncing, and lateral movement. A regular lingerie bra would definitely not hold up under that kind of stress. Continue reading “Triumph Launches Sports Bra Line”

Sweating in Style: Clothing for Active Lifestyles

The ancient Greeks had it easy when it came to what to wear when breaking a sweat. Competing in those first Olympic Games, all they had to do was strip down to, well, nothing. Fast forward to the 21st Century and you have myriad materials and designs from which to choose, depending on the activity and time of year.

What to wear is no longer just about putting on any shirt, shorts, socks and shoes. Sports and active wear design has become a rat race of real technological advances as well as marketing hoopla. Some claim to help keep you cool, some claim to boost performance, and some just bank on their style factor to keep you interested in the latest to roll off the factory line.

One thing’s for sure: you’ll never have to go naked again.
