Challenge Philippines Contest Winners

The day is here when we all find out who’s coming with me to Challenge Philippines 2015! Thank you all for participating in the contest. I used RandomPicker to choose the winners (one male, one female) to ensure impartiality of results.

As part of the mechanics I asked participants to post on my Facebook Page wall answering the question, “Why do I want to join Challenge Philippines?” There’s actually no right or wrong answer, but they were all nonetheless entertaining and inspiring. Here are some of my favorite responses:
Enrique Lorenzo San Agustin wrote: “I want to join the best half ironman race to date… I race all year and Challenge Philippines is indeed the toughest and most fulfilling accomplishment yet.”

Miko Sabado wrote: “Why do I want to join Challenge Philippines 2015?” “To serve as a model for others, show what is truly possible in life and to rak en rol.”

Matthew Velmonte wrote: “Why do I want to join Challenge Philippines? To embrace the suck! Macca style.”

Tim Ford wrote: “I want to race Challenge Phillipines because I love Challenge events. I love riding and the challenging course sounds incredible. And I want to crush Noelle De Guzman.”

Oh, Tim. You know you can crush me in all three disciplines. ;)

CONTEST: Join Me at Challenge Philippines 2015!

The moment I crossed the finish line at Challenge Philippines, I asked myself whether I wanted to do it all again: that swim against two currents, the hilly bike course that left even the pros cussing, the unexpectedly gruelling run. At the finish line, the answer was “Ask me in a week.”

Triathletes have a short memory, it seems — yes we remember that we had a tough time, but we quickly forget how physically demanding races are and the depth of the pain. Well we forget it just in time to register, which is what I did this morning.

“How Will I Challenge Myself?” Contest Winner

Inspiring stories surround us everyday. You just have to know where to look, but there’s always someone who wants to take that next step, to challenge himself or herself and move out of their comfort zone.

Thank you to the 17 people who submitted answers to the question “How will I challenge myself this year?” and entered my contest for a pair of Mizuno Wave Rider 17 shoes. For me you’re all winners already!

We’d love to give people a chance to experience doing this race, which will be held on parts of the Challenge Philippines course. So, I’m holding a contest — a free kit to the Subic Invitational Triathlon is up for grabs!

The contest theme is Triathlon Fun. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Get dressed in a funny outfit. Make sure it has big visual impact!
  2. Get your photo taken wearing that outfit doing one of the three disciplines of triathlon: swimming, cycling, or running. Have fun with this photo! ;)
  3. Post your photo to my Facebook Page wall with this caption: Triathlon is fun! Join me at the Subic Invitational Triathlon on November 17 in Subic Bay. http://www.subicfitnessfestival.com
  4. Get your friends, family, strangers on the bus, etc. to like your photo. The photo with the most Likes by September 30 wins the kit.

Kikay’s Kickstarter Contest

I’ve got a lot to be thankful for: Tatt Awards, my 30th birthday, and my Facebook Page recently reaching 4,000 Likes. This contest is my way of paying it forward to any person who wants to get a kickstart in their running and active lifestyle!

Check out what’s up for grabs:

Kickstarter contest prizes

  • Gold’s Gym Resistance Tube Kit: Run fitness is not just about endurance or speed. These resistance bands are great for building run-specific strength, as well as cross-training.
  • Biggest Loser Pedometer: How active are we, really? According to pedometer researcher Dr. Catrine Tudor-Locke, logging 10,000 steps daily — roughly 8 kilometers — classifies a person as “active” (source: About.com). A sedentary person who sits around most of the day would log 5,000 steps or less. A pedometer helps one determine their baseline level of physical activity on a normal day. Sometimes it’s shocking how little walking we really do outside of our run workouts, especially if we’re tied to office chairs all day.
  • Plana Forma water bottle: We need to hydrate well even if we’re not exercising at the moment, and this is especially important in our tropical climate. Keeping a water bottle handy reminds us to drink more, and this stylish stainless steel bottle is a handy size to put in a shoulder bag or beside your laptop as you work.

These prizes will go to the person who writes the best answer to the question: Why do you and I need to exercise? Leave your comment with your answer below. Contest ends on Monday next week and I will select winners by then. Prizes will be sent by courier Contest is valid only for Metro Manila residents.
