Lighting Up the Night at the Adobo Run 2011

Some weeks back I tweeted, “Ano ba yan? Puro na lang night run!” (What is this? More night runs!) In 2009, the only night run was the Kenny’s Open. Now it seems that night races are the next fad, attracting a new crowd of runners more predisposed to do their racing at night. One of the pioneers in festive night races is the Adobo Run, which just had its second edition last Saturday, October 29. Held in the Aseana Business Park on Macapagal Avenue, the race had a carnival theme, complete with float, fire dancers, stilt walkers, fireworks, and an afterparty!

Avon Race to 125,000 Kisses

Freaky weather these days; we’re well into the second “-ber” month but it’s still annoyingly hot when the sun’s shining, or miserably raining when it’s not.

One of the races that got hit by the uncertain weather was the Avon Race to 125,000 Kisses. Originally meant to be on October 2, a forecast of stormy weather postponed it to the next week.

My mom, dad, and I were supposed to run it, but on race day only I stepped up to the starting line. Continue reading »

Storming the Camsur Marathon

Somebody over at Runrio must have been praying really hard for Typhoon Nesat (Pedring) not to make landfall before the race last Sunday, because that morning dawned HOT HOT HOT!

I guess the real storm that weekend was the sheer number of runners from Manila that descended on Naga City and CWC. Continue reading »

Run United 2 / Runrio Trilogy 2

In my quest to do all three Runrio Trilogy events this year, I asked my mom to register me for the 10K at Run United 2 last August 21. I knew I wasn’t in the best condition to run fast, coming off my weekend in Camsur and with no training whatsoever. I figured why not just enjoy a nice one-hour aerobic run workout with no pressure whatsoever?

Try running “with no pressure whatsoever” in race conditions, and you’ll see it’s quite impossible, especially for people with a competitive streak. Continue reading »

My Ironman 70.3 Weekend

2011 Ironman 70.3: Relay Finisher!
I’m soooo happy! (And tired…)

As I write this, my Ironman 70.3 weekend in Camsur is nothing but a memory — except I have pictures, merchandise, and a (relay finisher) medal to prove it really happened! Continue reading »

35th Milo Marathon: The View from the Other Side

When I was injured on July 2, I knew the 35th Milo Marathon was on the 31st, only four weeks away. I decided that if I recovered well from my injury, I would join the support station Takbo.ph always sets up. It would be a way to thank the Philippine running community for the support they’ve always shown towards me and other runners struggling to get through the 42.

Powerade Presents TAKBO.PH Runfest 2011

I thought that I wouldn’t be able to join this year’s TAKBO.PH Runfest, which was the second edition after last year’s successful event. Right after my injury I was demoralized and couldn’t even consider running any sort of distance. But when the cast came off and I started rehabbing my elbow, I felt that familiar itch, and after running about during Tri United I was positive I could handle a 5K run.

Unfortunately, I hadn’t registered for the Runfest, so I was thankful and delighted that Powerade sponsored my race kit.

Tri United at Matabungkay

Even though I wouldn’t be able to compete as part of Endure’s relay team for Tri United at Matabungkay, I wanted to be there to support my teammates. Plus, it’s always good to get out of town; I was getting stir-crazy being cooped up at home for nearly two weeks.

So last Saturday we all checked into a small resort, which became Endure’s home for the weekend.

Animo Sprint Triathlon 2011

Even before I’d done my first sprint distance at SuBIT this year, I was already registered for the Animo Sprint Triathlon on June 12. I blame the early-bird discount on the registration fee for my itchy trigger finger. Never mind that the Animo sprint distance is 50 percent longer than the SuBIT sprint, involving a 900-meter swim, 30-kilometer bike ride, and 7.5-kilometer run. Gulp.

Hitting the Dirt at the Men’s Health All-Terrain Race 2011

I always joke about how dirt is my Kryptonite, but it’s true. I am never at ease on trails surrounded by grass and trees. This comes from growing up in the urban jungle of concrete and glass. Still, I’m always up for a once-a-year challenge, and I got it when I hit the dirt at the Men’s Health All-Terrain Race 2011 on June 5 in Nuvali. Continue reading »
