Animo Sprint Triathlon 2011
Posted in Blog, Multisport, Post-Race
Even before I’d done my first sprint distance at SuBIT this year, I was already registered for the Animo Sprint Triathlon on June 12. I blame the early-bird discount on the registration fee for my itchy trigger finger. Never mind that the Animo sprint distance is 50 percent longer than the SuBIT sprint, involving a 900-meter swim, 30-kilometer bike ride, and 7.5-kilometer run. Gulp.
K-Swiss ITU Subic Bay International Triathlon 2011

The weekend of April 30 to May 1 was such a major one for me this year, and not because of Labor Day. It was my first time to participate in the K-Swiss ITU Subic Bay International Triathlon (better known as SuBIT) and my first time ever to complete the Sprint distance (750-meter swim, 21-kilometer bike, 5.4-kilometer run).

And so we come to this: the last two days before the biggest multisport event of my life so far. The Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT) is one of the country’s longest-running tri events, and I’m joining the Sprint category (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run) for the first time. *gulp*
While most of my teammates have been training for the standard, or Olympic, category (double the sprint distance), my limited time for training kept my aspirations modest. That’s not to say I haven’t been training, though.

Speedo NAGT Subic: Baby, One More Time
Posted in Blog, Multisport, Post-Race
My team Endure Multisport has made the Subic International Triathlon our “A” race for the year, which means all of us who are members have to join it. Prior to last Sunday, I’d only done one tri at the 2010 Speedo NAGT Ayala Alabang, and its conditions are vastly different from what I’ll experience at SuBIT.
That’s why I did the 2011 Speedo NAGT Subic last Sunday. Continue reading »

I mentioned in my 2010 year-ender post that I want to get into multisport. Now while there are aquathlons (swim-run) I can join, I really loved going through the swim-bike-run in my first triathlon, the Speedo NAGT AAV. I knew I needed my own bike.
The Next Step Triathlon Camp Series
Posted in Blog, Multisport
For the longest time I’ve gotten away with getting no coaching for running. But now that I’ve entered the world of multisport I realize there are so many variables to consider, so many things to do, that I can’t waste time with trial and error. I need a coach.
Well, how about two coaches? The Next Step Triathlon Camp series by Coach Dan Brown and Coach Ani de Leon is about to start its run in the next few months. It is the first organized training camp series in the Philippines open to triathletes of all skill levels — including non-elite athletes like myself. I’ll learn essential swimming, biking, and running skills, build fitness, and have fun training with like-minded people.

I’m looking forward to participating in the following training weekends: Continue reading »
NAGT: Enter the Multi-Kikay
Posted in Blog, Multisport, Post-Race
I’d been putting it off for quite some time, but the prospect of doing a triathlon has always been appealing. My friend Joel got into triathlons a few years ago and trained for the 2009 edition of Iron Man 70.3 in CamSur, and plenty of my running friends are also part of Team Endure Multisport. It was only a matter of time before I got suckered sucked into the world of multisport.
And so, after four weeks of training, I found myself in the De La Salle Zobel pool last Sunday morning about to start my first triathlon. Continue reading »
