Maxicare Run on July 9

I really like when major companies promote a health advocacy by conducting a fun run. It expands our selection of races as well as benefits those who need help. (And it’s also pretty good marketing mileage for the companies.)

Coinciding with their 30th anniversary celebration, Maxicare is hosting the Maxicare Run on July 9, 2017 at Bonifacio Global City. A long-time sponsor at races, this premier healthcare provider in the Philippines has taken the next step in their healthcare advocacy.

The Maxicare Run will benefit Bahay Aruga, a halfway house for pediatric cancer patients undergoing outpatient treatment at the Philippine General Hospital.

Here’s some more information:

Most of these patients live outside Metro Manila and travel to Manila to get the best cancer treatment not available in the provinces.

At present, outpatient cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy/medical treatment stay and spend the night on the pavement or sidestreet of the hospital. PGH doesn’t have the facility to accommodate them. Using cartons and other improvised materials as their beds, these children spend the night outside the hospital and worst, mosquitoes enjoy “partying” with these patients.

Bahay Aruga provides free accommodation at the House, which is only a few minutes’ walk from PGH. But there are still more children needing help as they seek cancer treatment than the House can accommodate. So you can see, the more funding raised, the more children they can help.

The Maxicare Run has 3K, 5K, 10K, and 16K open categories and a 200-meter dash for kids (4-8 years old), so there’s something for the whole family. There will also be a post-race wellness and activity village to make your Sunday morning trip a fun one even after running!

One of Maxicare’s objectives is to get people who don’t run to do so, which is why they’ve opened a majority of slots in the 3K and 5K categories. The 16K category is pegged at a maximum of 300 participants, so if you’re an addict for the longer distances you need to register ASAP.

Register now in-store at the following Chris Sports branches: Glorietta, Market Market, SM Megamall, SM North Edsa, SM MOA, SM BF Paranaque. Registration is only until 7pm. Alternatively you can also register online.

Every runner gets a high-quality singlet and finisher medal. 16K finishers will also receive finisher shirts.
