Are you a mountain bike enthusiast? Check out the Globe Cordillera Challenge Bike Ride happening on May 4, 2013 in Benguet.
The Globe Cordillera Challenge is a bike ride to raise funds for reforestation of the Cordilleras. This year’s target is 30 seedling nurseries. The NGO partner Cordillera Conservation Trust builds roots-and-shoots nurseries in the Cordilleras in partnership with communities to teach them how to conserve and replenish their forests. This also helps enhance the community watershed and prevents landslides.
With Earth Hour just concluded, living a sustainable lifestyle is top of mind. As a very physically active person I need to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated. I try to stay away from using one-use plastic bottles by drinking filtered water out of reusable bottles instead of bottled water. (I’m glad Lightwater comes in 650ml bottles but would love larger, refillable bottles.)
As far as triathlon in the Philippines is concerned, the annual ITU Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT) is one of the most-awaited events on the calendar. It’s the longest-running triathlon event in the country, celebrating its 20th year. And this year, it’s double-billed as the ASTC Asian Triathlon Championships, the location of which rotates yearly among the member countries of the Asian Triathlon Confederation. It will also host the first para triathlon in Asia. This triathlon is one of my must-do races this year.
Kikay Runner is a proud media partner of the K-Swiss Subic Bay ASTC Asian Triathlon Championships 2013.
Want to start running but don’t know how to begin? Join a fun run! The Amazing Pinoy Fun Run on April 27, 2013 aims to get new people into running with a unique twist on the fun run formula.
Amazing Pinoy Fun Run on April 27, 2013
Instead of the usual non-stop running, participants will encounter interactive challenge stations along the way. Photographers will also be stationed on the course to immortalize your first fun run moments.
Post-race, get your photos taken with celebrities such as Sheena Vera Cruz from Amazing Race Philippines, Eric “Eruption” Tai from It’s Showtime, Jon Avila, Philippine Volcanoes Andrew Wolff and Chris Everingham, among others. There will also be an Azkals vs. Volcanoes exhibition race featuring current and former national football and rugby athletes. Check out the promotional video:
I can’t resist making this pun, but you can kickstart your fitness journey with the Azkals and Volcanoes! (Because they kick balls for a living! Get it? Sorry, corny pala. It was funny in my head before I wrote it.)
(Since this is a fun run, not a race, participants will not be timed individually. But you can check out your finish time on the big clock as you cross the finish line.)
Amazing Pinoy Fun Run ambassadors Andrew Wolff and Chris Everingham want to make the Philippines fitter, so there are distances for every beginner’s level of fitness: 2K (for those who have never run any distance before), 5K, and 10K. Early bird registration fees are P500 (2K), P550 (5K), and P700 (10K). Early bird registration ends on March 25, after which regular registration fees are P600 (2K), P650 (5K), and P800 (10K).
Registration is in-store at Chris Sports (Glorietta 3, SM North EDSA, SM Sucat, SM Mall of Asia, SM Fairview, SM Manila, SM Megamall, Robinsons Ermita, Festival Mall), Fitness and Athletics BGC, and R.O.X. You can also register online at amazingpinoyrun.com.

If you still don’t have your races for April locked down, check out the BDO Race for Life happening on April 7, 2013 at SM Mall of Asia Complex. This is a fundraising event with 100% of the proceeds helping fund BDO Foundation’s housing projects for typhoon victims.
BDO Race for Life on April 7
This event is organized by Without Limits, the same organizers that brought you events such as the Immuvit Fearless Challenge, CONquer Philippines, and the Quezon City International Marathon.
You can register online at bdo.com.ph/raceforlife. Registration fee is P450 (3K), P550 (5K), P700 (10K), or P900 (21K).
(This is also happening on the same day as the Rebisco Run, and the registration fees are just about the same. Freedom of choice on venue and race distance is always a good thing — and both events are for great causes. Check out the Rebisco Run race details.)
Keep your emergency information handy to ensure your road safety. Last Thursday’s long bike ride in Jala-Jala gave me the perfect opportunity to road test the ID on Me personal ID bracelet, which was so kindly provided for my review by Doms Pantaleon, the owner of ID on Me Philippines, the exclusive distributor of ID on Me USA here in the country.
I got the Pink ID on Me! Also available in Black, Red, Silver, or Blue.
I’ve never owned an ID bracelet before (I still have yet to claim my X-Sport Band from the Rebisco Run), but I know how important having identification is. If I get into trouble Continue reading “ID on Me: Road Safety ID”→
