Si KIKO ni KIKAYRUNNER

I’m in a relationship, and it’s uncomplicated. He’s my running buddy, keeping track of how fast and far I run. In return, I’ve promised to take care of him and never beat him up.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Kiko:

Kiko, my Garmin
Garmin Forerunner 305

Yes, I finally went and got myself a Garmin. I get to map out my runs and compute my average pace only after the fact when I input my data into Log Your Run, but wanted to have this data on the fly to help me train better and pace myself. I’m a natural speedster, which is disastrous for longer runs because I burn out before the end.

Mr. F got himself a Garmin Forerunner 310XT from his friend Mark Tan at Navco, the distributor for Garmin here in the Philippines. When I mentioned that I was saving up for the GF305 and intended to purchase one later this year, Mr. F introduced me to Mark — and that’s how I hooked up with Kiko so quickly.

It’s not as low-priced as the Garmins I see being sold on the Takbo.ph forum, but buying mine from the distributor means better customer and product support. Well, that’s my mentality anyway. Ü

So far, Kiko’s been a lovable companion; straight out of the box I took him for a 2-kilometer run inside Fort so I could see how Kiko tracks distance and pace in real-time. A quick browse of my manual alerted me to additional functions, which I plan to look into in detail when my schedule frees up for training runs.

I’m in love!

Garmin units supplied by official distributor Navco are now available at SecondWind Running Stores, and will be available soon at R.O.X., Watch Republic, and The North Face. For more information, visit the Navco official website or email sales@navco.com.ph.

The Garmin showroom is at 2nd Floor JG Building, C. Raymundo Ave., Rosario, Pasig City.

  1. these are the best types of relationships – uncomplicated – my nike sportband, my nike vomero, my nike running attire (ever reliable sportsbra!) hay πŸ™‚ nice "watch" πŸ˜‰

  2. Timmy, hehehe πŸ˜› at least naka-marathon ka na?Calvin, sometimes I have buyer's remorse when I think of all the clothes that price could have bought. But Kiko will prove to be a valuable investment, I'm sure of it. πŸ™‚Sid, siguraduhin mo lang color photocopy. πŸ™‚ Thanks!

  3. Gerard, I would have gone for a Nike+ kit too, but I knew it would only be a matter of time before I switched shoe brands and couldn't use the + sensor.Truman Bryan, all I can say is: dun dun DUNNNNNNNN

  4. Wow, nifty little toy Noelle! Wohoo πŸ™‚ I remember when I first got mine, parang the sky was the limit hehe. I rigged my main screen with total time, ave pace per kilometer, last lap pace (rigged to 1 lap = 1 kilometer) and of course the distance πŸ˜› Have fun with it! Baka san ka makaabot niyan hahah πŸ™‚

  5. i want to upgrade my watch…..for short so i will take this whole running thingie seriously….bought a timex at a super duper discounted rate but am not happy with it anymore…..basic features i am looking for…..it can tell distance, time, laps, calories burn….a plus if it can sync to my mac or pc…..another plus if it has flix…..does your kiko have these features?

  6. Hi!OK, Kiko is a Garmin Forerunner 305, a GPS-enabled watch. If I'm running outdoors (so Kiko can contact a satellite), I get distance and time out of the box. I can also change settings to give me lap info (like, 1 lap/kilometer). I can input my age and weight to get an approximate number of calories burned; this becomes more accurate when I use the heart rate monitor included in the package. All this data is available in real-time on my watch display.I use Garmin Training Center (included in the package) to download data from my watch to my PC (I believe this is also available for Mac). There are also various tools online to analyze this data. I'm not familiar with Flix though. What is that?
